This photograph was taken on the island of Floreana during the afternoon of December 5, 2008. We were visiting Punta Cormorant on the island of Floreana when we saw this male lizard on the lava rock. Lava lizards are readily identified by their relatively small size and long, tapering tails, slim bodies and rather pointed heads. The smallest of the lava lizards is the Floreana. Six of the seven species of lava lizards are confined to single islands as reflected by their common names. All are endemic. It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon with temperatures in the 80's.
