We were hiking at Punta Suarez, Espanola Island, on December 6, 2008, when this photograph was taken. It was late in the afternoon, and we enjoyed being able to view one of the richest wildlife locations in the Galapagos. The "boulder" trail is one that we will always remember! It was a partly cloudy afternoon with temperatures in the high 70's to low 80's. This endemic species is fairly common and is found chiefly in the arid zone. It nests on the ground beneath lava or cacti.
