We were hiking at Punta Suarez, Espanola Island, on December 6, 2008, when this photograph of a Galapagos Hawk was taken. It was late in the afternoon, and we enjoyed being able to view one of the richest wildlife locations in the Galapagos. The "boulder" trail is one that we will always remember! It was a partly cloudy afternoon with temperatures in the high 70's to low 80's. This endemic species is found on most of the islands and occurrs in all habitats from the coast to the highlands. The population of the Galapagos Hawk has been reduced in recent years, and its conservation status is vulnerable.
