This close-up shot of a Land Iguana was taken early in the morning on Thursday, December 4, 2008. We landed at Urbina Bay on the western coast of the island of Isabela. Urbina Bay is located at the base of Volcan Alcedo. Land Iguanas inhabit the arid zone. Males of this species are very territorial and defend their territories against intruders by engaging in head butting battles. It was a partly cloudy morning with temperatures in the lower 70's.
