This photograph was taken on the deck of the National Geographic Islander as we headed around the north end of Santiago Island for a late afternoon landing at Puerto Egas (James Bay). The total population in the world is less than 400 pairs all residing in the Galapagos. The conservation status of this species is vulnerable. This bird rarely alights on the sea to feed. It did, however, seem to enjoy hitching a ride with us. It was a warm afternoon with temperatures in the 70's and partly cloudy skies.
