Punta Vicente Roca is located at the 'mouth' of the head of the sea horse, which forms the northern part of the Island of Isabela, the largest of the Galapagos Islands. The remnants of an ancient volcano form two turquoise coves with a bay well protected from the ocean swells. The spot is a popular anchorage from which to take panga rides along the cliff. This photograph was taken during our two hour panga ride in the area. Later, I took advantage of some fabulous snorkeling opportunities in the area where a partially sunken cave beckoned our group to explore. We photographed this bird as it posed on the lava rocks. Air temperatures were warm on this sunny day, but the water was cold for snorkling.
