This photograph was taken on Thursday, December 4, 2008, as we hiked along a trail of broken lava at Punta Moreno located on southwestern Isabela. This prominent point on the shore is equi-distant between Volcan Sierra Negra and Volcan Cerro Azul. These volcanoes are still active. Punta Moreno has a desolate and pristine landscape of very impressive black lava flows with a unique system of brackish lagoons that are a magnet for wildlife. It was late in the afternoon with temperatures in the upper 70's.
