This photograph of a Striated Heron was taken as we hiked along the trail at Punta Espinosa on Fernandina Island. The Striated Heron occurs uncommonly throughout the Galapagos Islands and is thought to interbreed with sundevalli. Some of the individuals that we saw may have been striata/sundevalli intergrades. Striated Herons are typically solitary nesters. It was a pleasant afternoon with temperatures in the 70's with partly cloudy skies.
