After an early breakfast at the Hacienda San Lucas on February 22, 2011, we once again drove up the La Laguna-San Francisco Road to experience and bird an area that provides an excellent elevational transect beginning in dry scrub, ascending through pine-oak woodlands, and ending in humid, broad-leaf forest. This time we drove to the top of the mountain and began birding. On our way down, we spotted this male Elegant (blue-hooded) Euphonia in some mistletoe-infested trees that bordered a coffee finca. It was a sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70's.
