We were cruising through the mangroves via motorboats when we spotted this American Crocodile lolling along the bank. Crocodylus acutus is a species of crocodilian found in the Neotropics. We also saw this species in the Tárcoles River while birding in Costa Rica. Here there are dozens of 4-meter and a few 5-meter individuals that frequent bridge crossings. The crocodiles are quite the tourist attraction. Unfortunately, their size is predicated on the fact that tourists feed them daily which has allowed them to reach such a large size.
