We drove from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on February 19, 2011, to the Hacienda San Lucas. The Hacienda is a 100-year old, family-owned retreat that is located in the hills directly above the world-renowned Mayan ruins of Copán. Our first birding stop along our route was at El Puente, an archaeological site containing some of the southernmost known Mayan ruins. This is a photograph of one of the many Ferruginous Pygmy Owls that we saw during our trip. It was a partly cloudy day with temperatures near 85° and high humidity.
