We photographed this Bromeliad while visiting the archaeological ruins of Copán in Honduras. Bromeliaceae (the bromeliads) is a family of monocot flowering plants consisting of approximately 3,170 species native mainly to the tropical Americas. A few species are found in the American subtropics and one in tropical west Africa.
