Brad and I were birding the sides of the road as we descended the La Laguna-San Francisco Road near the Hacienda San Lucas in Honduras when we photographed this orange-colored, filamentous lichen (genus Cladonia) encircling a tree branch. This lichen consists of chains of algal cells wrapped around with fungal hyphae.
