After breakfast at the Hacienda San Lucas on February 20, 2011, we drove to the world-renowned Mayan archaeological site of Copán where we enjoyed both birding and a guided tour of the ruins. We saw this Golden-olive Woodpecker on the grounds of Copán. This species is a bronzy-green color and has frontal barring. The side view of the male in this photograph shows its red nape patch that extends forward to its bill along with its red moustache. It was a partly cloudy, humid morning with temperatures in the 80's.
