We had just finished lunch at the Pico Bonito Lodge on Sunday, February 27, 2011, when this Great Potoo, perched high up in a tree, was spotted. A ladder, leaning against a nearby tree, was provided for the (fool)-hardy to climb to take photos or get a better look. Brad took this closeup photograph to show the bird's facial features. It was a partly cloudy afternoon with temperatures in the 90's.
