Great Potoo

The Great Potoo is a neotropical species with large eyes, cavernous mouths, and nocturnal habits. Perching with an upright posture, their daytime roost is typically a dead snag or stump that is easily overlooked by observers. This particular bird didn't assume its typical stretched-out position with its bill pointing skyward even when we approached (or climbed a nearby ladder for better looks).
