After an early breakfast at the Hacienda San Lucas on February 21, 2011, we drove up the La Laguna-San Francisco Road to experience and bird an area that provides an excellent elevational transect beginning in dry scrub, ascending through pine-oak woodlands, and ending in humid, broad-leaf forest. This photograph shows the back, coloration, and wing pattern of a Masked Tityra and presents the bird in a very attractive pose. It was a beautiful, partly cloudy morning with temperatures in the 80's.
