We drove from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on February 19, 2011, to the Hacienda San Lucas. The Hacienda is a 100-year old, family-owned retreat that is located in the hills directly above the world-renowned Mayan ruins of Copán. Our first birding stop along our route was at El Puente, an archaeological site containing some of the southernmost known Mayan ruins. This Xukpi or Turqoise-browed Motmot was one of the species that we saw. It was a partly cloudy day with temperatures near 85° and high humidity.
