We left the Hacienda San Lucas after breakfast on February 23, 2011, and drove to the Lodge at Pico Bonito. After lunch and settling into our cabin, Brad and I did some birding on the property's grounds. We photographed this Violet-crowned Woodnymph as it perched. The female is rather plain with green-mottled flanks, a black bill, and a white-tipped blue-black tail. It was a humid, overcast afternoon with intermittent heavy rain and temperatures in the upper 80's.
