Gullfoss (Golden Falls) is a waterfall located in the canyon of the Hvítá river in southwest Iceland (northeast of Reykjavik). The average amount of water running over this waterfall is 140 m³/s in the summertime and 80 m³/s in the wintertime. The highest flood measured was 2000 m³/s. Gullfoss forms part of the Golden Circle, a popular day tour for tourists. The roar and spray of the water, the slippery rocks on the climb up to and down from the overlook all added to the thrill of the adventure of viewing Gullfoss close-up.
