After visiting Geysir Park during the afternoon of Thursday, August 12, 2010, we drove to the Pingevellir (Žingvellir) Rift Valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and on into Žingvellir National Park near the peninsula of Reykjanes and the Hengill volcanic area. This is a photograph of fissures running along the rift between the Eurasian and North American plates. The section of the ridge which includes the island of Iceland is also known as the Reykjanes Ridge.
