We were spending our first full day in Lecina, and after a morning walk to Betorz, Brad and I decided to go with some of the group to Alquézar. This lovely hilltop village is in the province of Huesca in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is located within the Sierra y Cañones de Guara Nature Reserve. Examples of rock art can be seen at the Vero River Cultural Park, a World Heritage site. Alquezar's castle, the Santa María la Mayor collegiate church with its cloister of Romanesque capitals, its organ, and its many shrines are popular visitor sites. This photograph shows the village and its fortification walls.
