We birded the Selva De Oza area (Huesca, Spain) and then drove up to where we had good views of snow-clad mountains. The Pyrenean Chamois, Rupicapra pyrenaica pyrenaica, is a Goat antelope that lives in the Pyrenees, Cantabrian and Apennine Mountains. It is one of the two species of the genus Rupicapra, the other being the Chamois, Rupicapra rupicapra. It is in the Caprinae subfamily of bovids, along with sheep and goats. The Pyrenean Chamois is up to 80 cm tall and has a summer coat that is ruddy brown. Its winter coat is a black/brown with darker patches around the eyes. Both males and females have backward-hooked horns up to 20 cm in length. They browse on grass, lichens and buds of trees. This species is sure-footed and agile and can be found anywhere up to 3000 m. It was a partly cloudy morning with temperatures in the 60's.
