We were hiking in the Pyrennes near Canfranc, a municipality in the Aragón Valley of north-eastern Spain, when this photograph was taken. The Eurasian Crag Martin is a large and compact swallow that has a dusky, diffusely streaked throat. A useful field mark to identify this species is the location of prominent white windows that are visible on most of its tail feathers when its tail is spread. Temperatures were in the high 50's to low 60's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
