We woke on May 8, 2009, to warm weather and partly cloudy skies. After breakfast, we took a walk from our hotel, La Choca, through the village of Lecina and headed north towards the village of Betorz. The Eurasian Nuthatch is a compact passerine with a rusty breast and belly, a big head with a black eye-stripe, and strong feet specialized for climbing on sloping surfaces. Temperatures were in the high 70's on this clear, sunny afternoon.
