We were near Sariņena, a municipality located in the province of Huesca, Aragon, Spain, on May 4, 2009, looking for Little Owls. Along the road, there were many run-down, abandoned farms. (It seems that the farming population had migrated to urban areas where jobs were (once) plentiful.) The outside of this roof was built with a tile structure adapted so that Kestrels could build their nests under them. Note the two 'double' tiles shown in this photograph. It's wonderful what a little thought and consideration can do for the well fare of our avian friends. It was a sunny morning with temperatures in the low 70's.
