On the morning of May 2, 2009, we continued to bird in the Ebro Delta area near the Mediterranean before heading to the steppes of Zaragoza. This Short-toed Eagle flew over us and provided great views. This eagle has pale underparts with a dark head and breast. Unlike a Common Buzzard, this species does not have a prominent carpal patch. The tail has three evenly spaced dark bars. It was a clear, sunny morning with temperatures in the 70's.
