Late in the afternoon of May 3, 2009, we resumed our birding, following several hours of siesta, looking for grouse on the steppes near Lomaza. The two reserves, la Lomaza and el Planerón, both hold enough Dupont’s Larks to sustain a healthy population. These reserves attract a large number of birders in early spring. The scenery here is stark but beautiful. The afternoon was hazy with temperatures pushing 90 degrees.
