On April 29, 2009, our major birding stop was Laguna de Pedro Muņoz to look for White-Headed Ducks, Oxyura leucocephala, an endangered species of fewer than 2,000 individuals. Competition from and hybridization with Ruddy Ducks in addition to environmental concerns are all factors threatening this species. Don't look for White-headed Duck photos here. We saw some beautiful examples of the species, but, unfortunately, our SD cards with all our photos taken during the first part of our trip were stolen at Albufera Natural Park. The Whiskered Tern seen at Pedro Munoz in summer plumage has a dark gray breast and belly, a white cheek, and dark red legs.
