We were birding in the alpine areas of Selva de Oza, the upper valley of the Aragón Subordán, when we saw the White-throated Dipper on May 5, 2009. This photo was taken from our van. Once we stopped, we were never able to get close enough for a better shot. This species prefers fast-flowing torrents with exposed large rocks to perch on and hunt from for aquatic invertebrates. It's a fat, chunky, brown-black bird with a white bib. Temperatures were in the mid-60's on this partly cloudy morning.
