After breakfast on May 8, 2009, we hiked and birded along a road leading from Lecina to Betorz. This path took us through box scrub, olive groves, and stunted oak forest. Small plots of farmed land along with stunning views of the Pyrenees provided an idyllic backdrop to birding. This male Woodchat Shrike has a reddish-brown crown and nape, a black forehead, mantle, and eye-mask. Its rump and breast are whitish. It was a sunny morning with temperatures in the 70's and very high humidity that made it feel much hotter.
