We saw this Yellowhammer sitting atop a small hillock while we were hiking around the ski resort of Astún which is located near the town of Canfranc in the High Aragon of the western Pyrenees (province of Huesca, Spain). The Yellowhammer is a big bird (15.5-17 cm) with a long tail and a reddish-brown rump. Its head is almost all yellow with some dark markings on the top and sides. Its flanks are streaked a reddish-brown. Temperatures were in the high 50's to low 60's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
