After lunch on July 26, 2010, we met up with some of the VENT group and headed to Herdla to bird the nature reserve that is located there. Herdla is located on the north coast of the Island of Askøy (Askøy is adjacent to the city of Bergen). This is an interesting historical location because during WWII all of Herdla was a military base for the German Luftwaffe. We walked the old runways that were used by the Germans to defend the west coast of Norway against Allied attacks. This is a photograph of Joanne and Brad taken at Herdla. It was a partly cloudy afternoon with temperatures in the low 70's.
