Late in the morning of Friday, July 30, 2010, we left Eidfjord and drove through Brimnes to catch a ferry across the Kinsarvik fjord at Kinsarvik. Just outside of Eidfjord, we stopped to take a photograph of an isolated, high mountain farm operated by two eighty-year-old sisters. The farm (Kjeåsen mountain farm) lies like an eagle's nest on the steep fjellsiit, 530 meters above the Simafjord. We were standing at ground level looking up at the farm bathed in sunlight. In the past, supplies for the farm and the sisters had to be hauled up the mountain via cable car or brought up by climbing a wooden ladder. Today, one can take a mini-bus up the narrow power station road (built in the 1970's) to the top. Temperatures were in the mid-70's on this partly cloudy day.
