Before lunch on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, we descended the Stalheimsklevia. This is the name given to a 1.5-km-long stretch of road that winds its way down the mountainside from the top at Stalheim to the bottom at Nærøydalen Valley. The Stalheimsklevia is one of the steepest roads in northern Europe. It presented our bus driver with 13 narrow, hairpin bends in the road. The road was originally constructed between 1842 and 1846. Stalheimsklevia is a breathtaking taste of western Norwegian roads as they used to be. On each side of Stalheimskleiva, one can see Stalheimsfossen waterfall with a 126 meter drop and Sivlefossen waterfall with a 142 meter drop. Temperatures were the low 70's with partly cloudy skies.
