After birding "Carmen's yard" late in the afternoon on December 28, 2009, we drove to Ammo Dump Ponds. We saw this Bat Falcon perched on a branch near the road as we drove along in the "birdmobile". Temperatures were in the upper 70's on this cloudy afternoon with intermittent rain. Because of the cloudy conditions and rain, it was difficult to see the rufous coloration on this small falcon's lower belly as clearly as we would have liked to.
