We left Canopy Lodge after an early breakfast on December 25, 2009, to head for the dry Pacific lowland around the small community of El Chiru. We photographed this Boat-billed Flycatcher as it perched in a tree along the road we were hiking. This species has a broad, heavy bill and olive colored upper parts with no rufous coloration. Temperatures were in the low 80's (and climbing) on this partly cloudy morning.
