After breakfast on December 28, 2009, we birded Semaphore Hill, the one mile road connecting Canopy Tower with the main highway. Temperatures were in the low 80's on this partly cloudy, humid morning. The Collared Aracari shown in this photograph was well camouflaged by the surrounding foliage. This species differs from the Fiery-billed Aracari with its smaller breast spot, red and black breast band and tomia (the sharp ventral edges of the upper beak) that are serrated.
