We saw this Basilisk Lizard basking in the sun near a small stream that runs through Canopy Lodge's property. The photograph shows a Common Basilisk, Basiliscus basiliscus, a member of the Corytophanid family. Found in Central and South American rainforests near rivers and streams, this lizard is also called the Jesus Lizard, Jesus Christ Lizard or Lagarto de Jesus Cristo because of its ability to run on the surface of water.
