On the morning of December 30, 2009, we birded along Pipeline Road. This road is just beyond the old Canal Zone town of Gamboa and winds for miles through the forests and foothills of Soberania National Park. It was a sunny morning with temperatures in the mid-70's. The Gray-necked Wood-Rail popped out of the foliage alongside the road and gave everyone good looks. The bird walked along the side of the road and meandered in and out of the foliage until a vehicle coming down the road frightened it back into the brush. The bird's red legs can be seen in this photograph.
