After breakfast on December 28, 2009, we birded Semaphore Hill, the one mile road connecting Canopy Tower with the main highway. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this partly sunny, humid afternoon. To see the Great Potoo, we had to cross the main highway at the bottom of Semaphore Hill. The Great Potoo has large eyes (look carefully at the top of the brownish "blob" on the dark branch in the left of this photo) which are shut in this sleeping bird. Rarely seen during the day, this species is active at night catching insects.
