This is a photograph of a Green Hermit Hummingbird that we took during our first afternoon at El Valle's Canopy Lodge. The grounds at the lodge have attractive plantings and flowers which provide cover and food for the various birds we saw. With its long, decurved bill and a mostly reddish mandible (buried in a nectar bearing flower), this is a beautiful hummingbird species. Look closely and you can see its long, graduated tail with an elongated pair of central feathers. Temperatures were in the upper 70's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
