After birding in the Parque Natural Metropolitano (Metropolitan Park) during the morning of January 2, 2010, we drove to Parque Municipal Summit to look at the Harpy Eagle before heading back to Canopy Tower for lunch. Temperatures were in the low 90's on this partly cloudy, humid afternoon. The closeup photograph shows the head, bill and talons of the Harpy Eagle. This eagle is very large and massively built and has 2" thick tarsi. It is considered to be the most powerful bird of prey in the world.
