After lunch and a short siesta during the afternoon of December 28, 2009, Brad and I watched the hummingbirds at the feeders located around the Canopy Tower. This Long-tailed Hermit Hummingbird was just coming in to feed. Shown in the photograph are the bird's outstretched wings, long, central tail feathers, and long (1.5") decurved bill. Look closely and note the yellow lower mandible. Temperatures were in the mid- to upper 80's on this hot, humid afternoon.
