We left Canopy Lodge after an early breakfast on December 25, 2009, to head for the dry Pacific lowland around the small community of El Chiru. After a morning of birding in this area, we drove to Raul Arias' beach house at Playa Santa Clara for lunch and some down time. A male Magnificent Frigatebird with its bright red gular pouch is shown in this photograph. There were a lot of Magnificent Frigatebirds soaring over the Pacific Ocean and its sandy beaches. Temperatures were in the mid- to high 80's on this sunny afternoon.
