Early in the evening on December 28, 2009, we finished up our busy day of birding by walking along Camino del Oleoducto (Pipeline Road). We photographed the Plain Xenops as it perched in a tree. The angle of the photograph does not show this species short, wedge-shaped, upturned bill. Shown, however, is the bird's supercilium and cheek stripe along with rufous rump and tail feathers. Temperatures were in the upper 70's on this cloudy evening.
