On the morning of December 30, 2009, we birded along Pipeline Road. This road is just beyond the old Canal Zone town of Gamboa and winds for miles through the forests and foothills of Soberania National Park. It was a sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70's. We photographed this male Purple-throated Fruitcrow as it perched in a nearby tree. Females lack the purple coloration on their throats. The species has broad wings and a short tail.
