We arrived in Panama City around 1400 on December 22, 2009. Brad and I decided to walk around the grounds of our hotel, the Country Inn and Suites (Amador), to look at scenery and see what birds were around. We walked along Pelicano Avenue which follows a portion of the Panama Canal. This was our first look at a Red-crowned Woodpecker. This species eats insects and fruits and is common in the Canal area. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this partly cloudy and humid afternoon.
