While waiting for our room assignment at El Valle's Canopy Lodge in El Valle de Antón, Brad and I enjoyed sitting on the lodge's porch overlooking a group of six platform feeders loaded with fruit to attract birds. We were able to observe and photograph this Red-crowned Woodpecker moving up the trunk of a small tree. Its chur, chur call is similar to its North American cogener, M. carolinus, the Red-bellied Woodpecker which we see in Houston. Temperatures were in the upper 70's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
