On the morning of December 30, 2009, we birded along Pipeline Road. This road is just beyond the old Canal Zone town of Gamboa and winds for miles through the forests and foothills of Soberania National Park. It was a sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70's. The orange-red bill and eye-ring, red belly and black underside of the tail of this male Slaty-tailed Trogon are field marks that can be used to ID this species (differentiated from Black-tailed by bill color and lack of white chest band).
